And to begin with…
Choosing a new laptop means that you will have to decide between several models. Some computers have power, others have more basic features. To help you, we have tested this model according to several parameters.
After reading this article you will know if this model suits your needs.
Vivobook to surf the Internet?
Your needs are almost exclusively internet browsing and some word processing documents, but you don’t want any quality defects in this laptop.Ensuring proper operation requires quality components and proven technological competence on the part of the manufacturer.
That’s the direction taken by Asus with this Vivobook.A product positioned as mid-range but of good quality. When you get used to it, you can see that the equipment is of good quality.
It’s a big screen that you have: 15.6 inches that will be less easily transported compared to an ultra book. The manufacturer offers a processor Intel Celeron N4000; A mid-range orientation. By investing in this laptop, you take the risk of immediate obsolescence. The compromise could be on a model with a smaller screen size but with a better processor. In the end, you shouldn’t ask too much of this computer, otherwise you’ll get annoyed by its slowness when you launch several applications in parallel. Very clearly, with only 4 Gb ofRAM, this laptop is not the best equipped model. It is highly likely that if you decide to use the Vivobook, you will have to add at least 2 Gb to one of the avaiilable. In terms of memory, you will be assured of having a machine that is more fluid.
For hard drive sizing, Asus decided to put 256 Gb. This is the standard model. In any case, it should be enough for a use like surfing the web. Asus comes with this Vivobook a laptop that you’ll keep for a few years before it becomes obsolete.
Last point about the autonomy. the Vivobook can work 4 hours in wifi mode only activated by the batteries. Batteries store little energy, and the computer consumes a lot of energy when it is used. In other words, you will have to keep this Vivobook most of the time connected to the power cable.
The Vivobook- the right model for streaming and videos ?
This Vivobook is an interesting option for anyone who uses laptops to view movies, photos, or listen to music. The model has sufficient basic equipment for this purpose.
Through all the available laptops, you will know if, despite an average score, it corresponds to your needs.
Asus presents this model in a large size version. A 15.6 inches screen, and a resolution of 1920×1080 make it one of the great products available on the market at the moment. Because of its wide screen, it is perfectly designed for watching movies. Very good quality rendering, both in brightness and image detail.
One of the disadvantages of this size, however, is the overall weight: 2.3 kg that will have to be transported.
The glossy screen option is not possible on this model; it would have made the display easier to read. The effect is of lower quality in environments with intermediate or even low light levels – often corresponding to the conditions in which a film is viewed. It will be more delicate to perfectly distinguish the images without getting tired.
In short, you’ll prefer this finish for daytime movie viewing.
On the sound side, it Vivobook has good components: board and integrated speakers. By pushing the volume with music, we tested the rendering. Even if it does well, this laptop will not be able to compete with a good hi-fi system. If necessary, you can later supplement with external elements if you consider the results too insufficient.
Even if the use of this laptop does not require the latest generation of processor, be aware that it Intel Celeron N4000 is now outdated. As a result, in the important calculation phase, it may be a little brighter, and will consume more energy. However, as long as you only run one application at a time, it may be enough.
Equipped with the Intel UHD Graphics 620 graphic card, and with 4 Gb of RAM, you will be able to see your movies and even do photo editing if needed. Sufficient for the majority of you, this will not be the case for those who want to make 3D images.
Regarding the connectivity part, Asus has made efforts with available 4 ports. That makes it one with the biggest number of ports compared to what’s on the market right now. Plenty of room to connect your mouse, speakers and other USB keys.
For multimedia use in travel or on-the-go mode, this Vivobook may not be suitable. That’s only 4 hours of battery life you have at your disposal. Before the end of some movies in long version, you will have to put the power cable back on, otherwise this laptop will turn itself off. This situation may annoy many people, considering that the interest of a laptop is to be free of these details.
Vivobook the right choice for travelling connected ?
It Vivobook is certainly a laptop, but not really portable and certainly not intended for those who travel. It doesn’t seem to have been a priority when they designed this model Asus. Having tested this laptop in situations as diverse as traveling, in a suitcase between shirts and jeans, while traveling between home and work, on a family weekend, here’s what you should remember.
In other words, leave it at home and only take it for occasional short trips.
This is one of the heaviest models compared to the competition: 2.3 Kg. It’s unpleasant to carry. It’s bulky, and when you’re on the go you’ll only dream of having one of these ultra slim models of the competition. The reason for that ? The size of the screen. For 15.6 inches, on the other hand, it allows you to have a clear display when you want to browse the internet or write e-mails.
The designers of this did not consider it useful to integrate the backlit keyboard. Not really necessary.
Good image definition although the slab is not shiny. The viewing is up to the mark.
This laptop is very comfortable to use. The image is beautiful, and with its anti-reflective matt tile, no more problems even outdoors.
The processor Intel Celeron N4000 is inferior to other competitive products.
Note that like all manufacturers, Asus is optimistic about the autonomy of this Vivobook. This figure is an estimate and consider instead that you will have 70% of this autonomy.
Unfortunately for the specifications of the batteries will only allow 4 hours of availability, one of the lowest at the moment.
In order to reduce the risk of breakage while on the move, this model is equipped with a 256 Gb SSD hard drive. This disk technology (solid-state drive), tried and tested for more than 20 years, allows to store data, on the same principle as the usb key. With no moving mechanical parts, there is less risk of brittleness and produced heat .For those who do not have enough space on the disk, it will be necessary to go through the option of a subscription on the cloud; the price decreases regularly.
When it comes to traveling, you’ll probably think twice before you take that computer with you. Its size does not invite you to carry it everywhere you go. The main reason is its 15.6 inches, which makes it one of the largest in its class; every move, with its weight, may be difficult.
At the connector level, this model provides 4 inputs. Convenient for travelling when you will need it, it ranks among those with the most.
The techno bluetooth of this model will allow you to connect locally to any type of device that accepts this communication protocol: phone, connected speakers, car…
Following our tests, it appeared to us that it is not Vivobook really made for travelling.
Vivobook the right choice for audio or video editing ?
If your main professional activity is not audio or video editing, but you are looking for a laptop that can meet this need for your hobbies, then this Vivobook is the right choice. It is correctly equipped on the processor level for speed and RAM for task management; Of course, there are models with much better performance, but this is already a good model.
The software suite installed by default on this model provides the bare minimum to start working. It is possible to edit, but it is not the task that the processor Intel Celeron N4000 does best. However, there’s no question of switching to professional applications; the processor performance and the 256 Gb disk size will calm your nerves due to their lack of power and space.
This model contains an SSD for the operating system and backup part. The advantage is the speed of starting and execution, but the disadvantage is the shorter lifetime of the disk. Here with 256 Gb you will have enough space to store everything. This computer, even if it is not intended for this use, is still a good product in terms of storage.
As with most laptops, don’t expect incredible battery life (4 hours). This is less than average, so we advise you to keep the power cable close by, otherwise you may lose your work unexpectedly. With most competitors on the market, this figure is better.
For the connector part, the Vivobookhas the USB3 format. This model will allow you to connect to an external storage drive for even more space when your local disk is full. In addition, this technology offers a better rate of high-speed file transfer between your laptop and external drives.
With this Vivobook product, Asusoffer us a good start for an advanced use of audio and video editing. You will also be able to use it every day to browse the internet. In short, an interesting choice in this price range.
Vivobook for video games?
Laptops, thanks to the rise in performance of processors and graphics cards, allow some people to gamble. The tests we ran showed that the choices of Asus in terms of components – the chip, the processor generation, or the quality of cooling – make this an average laptop for gaming. During our tests, we found that the computer was raised correctly, as soon as the scenes in some games required fast movements and colour changes.
Simply put, the higher the screen resolution, the more accurate the details in a game. On this computer, it’s a resolution of 1920×1080, nothing better at the moment
The technological evolution being wha it is, this model does much less than many other laptops. After our analysis, it appears that use in game mode generates processor overheating and degradations in terms of images and colors. Finally, if you want to play often, we recommend a model with more power.
With an average score on the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) ranking, this laptop allows you to try some games. It corresponds to a median choice, neither extremely powerful nor too expensive.
An average capacity/price ratio that makes this Vivobook an interesting choice when you’re looking for a 256 Gb drive. A feature that interested those, and there are still many, who want to install and play locally.
For Wi-Fi technology, Asus decided to make the use of the 5GHz wireless band possible. Interesting when you can play outside with full broadband.
One of the heaviest laptops of the moment, partly due to its 15.6 inches size.
One of the lowest battery life 4 hours, which will force you to often leave this laptop plugged in.
In conclusion, it Vivobook is good when used for local games or online games, although other competing models may be preferred in the same price range. Good for games, but also for many other uses.
Vivobook for office automation ?
Which operating system to choose? In fact, there are no bad choices any more today. The OSes available on the market are all different technical ecosystems with their own applications. ThisVivobook is in any case perfectly suited for office use.
Asus has designed this new laptop for the majority of users. In this case, it is Windows 10.
As soon as you have to take this laptop to the office, or on a trip, you will regret its consequent weight. This model weighs 2.3 Kg, making it one of the heavyweight.
Due to the size of the keyboard, all the office oriented elements are present. On the right-hand side you will find a number pad.
This Vivobook eliminates the problems of light reflection on the screen, as it has a matt finish. You will benefit from a more diffuse natural image, which has the advantage of causing less eye strain.
Under normal conditions of use, i.e. during the day, you will have no difficulty with the absence of a backlit keyboard.
Storage in this model is in the middle of what is available elsewhere. It’s 256 Gb available, perfect for office use, but maybe tight for recording movies.
Clearly, this is an excellent one in this price range. Well thought out in terms of ergonomics.
The Vivobook in conclusion
Almost impossible for a laptop to be good everywhere, but on the other hand it is possible to obtain a average result. The Vivobook’ is average but will do the job very well.
Simply put, we were not convinced for uses such as :
– travel use
This laptop is average for the following uses:
– web browsing
– listening to music and watching videos
– making audio and video editing
– playing video games
And we highly recommend this laptop for :
– office tasks
